Hello all,
had no idea about a board like this, cool, ,
here's my problem; my daughter borrowed my aerostar for a school trip took it in wva mountains , had ac on in this summer, loaded down, and the dealer in cumberland md, says the coolant resevoir developed large hole, coolant ran out as it was getting hot, and messed up the engine, so i say ok can you put another in it?, they give me 3 choices of prices and milage, i take the more expensive 52 k milage, now it's a month later and it is using 1 qt of oil every 100 miles, it supposed to have a 3 month warranty, when i picked it up it also wasn't connected at the donut exhuast so it's kindof loud, after seeing all the oil being used i thought they did this to cover something up, i asked the sales guy and got no help, and the mech wasn't there, so i drove it home, should i try to contact ford main on this , before taking it back or would that make things worse?
thanks
John
ps.. i wish i'd known about this board before i just put 300$ into trying to fix overheating in my 93 aerostar which now seems to be another leaky heater core, probably caused by a busted heater hose the other night,
thanks again tim

If the vehicle isn't losing oil then its burning oil.
This is mainly caused by worn piston rings and valves. The oil slips past them and gets burned in the combustion chamber. Worn rings are usually the sign of either a high mileage or improperly maintained engine.
For example an engine that didn't receive many oil changes or the oil level was kept low accelerates wear and tear which can cause oil to burn in a low mileage engine.
Does the service order say that they checked the replacment engine over? Piston rings, valves, pushrods, etc?
I have a feeling the word Refurbished or Remanufactured comes into play rather then any specifics.
By all means is you have a warranty use it if the dealer won't help call Ford directly. You paid for a low mileage engine and it certainly isn't performing like one it's performing like one in need of an overhaul.

krankshaft is absolutely correct. act now, before the warranty is up and make sure to get some documentation on when you noticed the problem. anything to back up your side of the situation. usually, ford will not give you any trouble rectifying this, but always better safe than sorry.
and yes, this font is a little hard on the eyes, Fordboy49.
thanks krankshaft, and all, i guess they musta gave me a higher milage engine than they said?, well gonna take it out tommorrow, wish me luck, i did write down at what milages the oil was disappearing,
a complete oil change every 500 miles is NOT a good thing. take it to an independent ASE certified engine mechanic that works on V6 Fords and have him to an analysis for your case, $100 well spent, and may get you a good engine that doesn't support a tanker load a year in oil.
yep , i thought all mechanics that had a shop were ase certified?, ..lol, guess not
my mechanic told me yesterday, i should get rid of my 93 cause he thought the head gasket was the culprit, instead of the heater cooler, no way i still have up to 97's that i could trade em for,

sometimes overheating is a simple thing to repair. have you checked the fan clutch? is it losing coolant?(with a leaky heater core this is probably happening.try bypassing the core and see if it still leaks) if head gasket is suspected, have you noticed any of those warning signs? oil level rise, rough running, loss of power, oil/coolant exchange?
well he did a flush, then repl thermostat, then my heater hose busted,i fixed that on road, so then he replaced the fan clutch, then belts, then coolant sensor, after all that i noticed windows steaming a bit, and figured it was heater core, it was ,everything seems to be ok for now
thanks
