I've been reading the posts in this forum for nearly a year and have posted very little. Great site.
I do have a question to ask that has been beaten to a pulp but I can't make up my mind. I have checked out the three major tuners (hypertech, superchips, and diablo) and don't know which one to get. All I can say is that all the reviews have confused me more than anything. Everyone likes something different and I can't find any useful info on the xcal 2. I already know the major differences, I just need to know which one has the least problems and the most HP and/or gas mileage gain (I'm also having a hard time finding dyno charts for the hypertech and superchips). I also don't plan to do too many mods, so I don't have to have all the extra features of the diablo. Any info that can help sway me one way or another would greatly be appreciated.
PS - I have a 2004 FX4 Scab with 3.73s and the 5.4.
PS2 - Had the PCM reflashed and WOW what a difference!... But not enough.
You will get as many different answers on your question, as there are members on this site. Some like Hypertech, some like Diablo, some like Predator, and etc...
Personally I chose the X-Calibrator2 as my tuner( person that programs) recommends it, and I like it capabilities.
Remember this. " You will only get out of which ever tuning device you choose, in relationship to what the tuner (person that programs it) puts into it."
My tuner has installed 3 "custom" tunes in my X-Calibrator2 that suit the style of driving that I do.
I can tell you the my truck dynoed at only 198 HP at the rear wheels in its stock form, but now with the Air Force1 intake, and my tuners 93 octane performance tune that it now puts over 240 HP to the rear wheels. Not bad for a #6300 4X4 SCrew.
Unfortunately my tuner is not associated with this site..
I said what the hell and bought a Hypertech. I was pretty uncertain about which one was best but in my opnion they all do basically the same thing; get the most out of the stock engine as possible. I found a great deal online for the hypertech (350$) and im pretty impressed with it especially the ease of use. good luck with your quest!
You are not going to notice any difference in the tuners for the issues you listed. Just by the one that is offering the best deal when you are ready to put up the cash.

I agree on everything except the horsepower gains. I have witnessed far to many dyno sessions where the custom tuned X-calibrator has produced a considerable increase in HP over the others mentioned.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably go with the least expensive then. I would like to go with the xcal 2, but i've heard too many horror stories about custom tunes (not specifically about the xcal though).

Please elaborate on your statement " I have heard too many horror stories".
Personally, and please do not think I am flaming you or anyone else Tony351, but why would you invest in the least expensive tuner when you paid what you did for your vehicle, and the tuner you do buy is going to be rewriting the "brain" of that vehicle.
Do yourself a favor and save up for the X-Calibrator2 with a set of 3 custom tunes for your vehicle.
Believe me, I don't want to get anything "cheap" for my truck. I just can't find any convincing info one way or the other. But since this post I've had a couple of private messages and your post regarding how good the xcal 2 is. I will look more into it.
