radio interference

I have a 2002 F250 diesel and I am experiencing a lot of 'ticking' noise on weaker am stations that is related to engine rpm. I have used a portable radio in the truck while it is running and have experienced the same problem.(so I don't think that a noise filter or signal booster will help) Could this be something from the diesel engine? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts king121893.

The only high voltage source on the PSD that is similar to an ignition system is the injector firing signal from the injector driver module. If it's an aftermarket reciever maybe try powering it from a different circuit. Other than that I really don't even have a good guess.

I have an 01 that does the same thing. I've not tried to run it down and thought it was just the nature of the beast. Also, my truck is stock, and has the stock radio/cd/etc.

I dug around in the book a little today. Evidently there is some factory installed suppression euiptment, though it's difficult to tell where exactly.

Under the hood at the passenger side rear at the firewall and along the right side frame up front there appears to be some suppression straps. Maybe try to find those straps and make sure they are clean with good metal to metal contat.

I have an '02 F350 PSD and have an occassional loud spike noise at a frequency of about once per second on weaker AM stations. It is not related to engine speed but it does go away when I switch fuel tanks. Anyone figure this one out?
