Hi there! Well driving down the highway the other day and had the vent on, no a/c on just the vent and temp selector on blue, and fan on high.It worked fine air blowing then it would suddenly stop working, if you switced to hot then back to cold it would come on again. This worked a few times and then it would not work at all it also stopped the air from the vents in the back working. Oh yah if you left it for a while in off position it would come on again if you put it to vent. When you put it to vent you could feel some air coming from defrost.Any help would be appreciated thanks.
Sounds like a vacuum problem
Check for a leak in the vacuum line coming off of the back of the intake plenum. The line is made of nylon or plastic and is quite thin, approx. 1/8 inch o.d. Also verify that the 1 way valve that the line goes into is functioning properly. the valve on my 92 is black and beige in colour and is approx. the same diameter as a quarter.
Mine did the exact same thing, and it's the plastic vacuum line that broke right at the one-way check valve near the big heater box in the engine compartment. Heat and age. I simply removed the remnant of the plastic line from the rubber fitting and stick that plastic hose back on.
Just checked and all the lines are hooked up how do I check the one way valve and is it farther away from the heater box about the size of a quarter sorry amateur.
The valve is near the heater blower, it is actually attached to the plastic line described earlier. the line goes directly into it and out the other side.
Are you saying the blower motor stopped? If that is the case, it's not a vacuum problem. That would be an electrical problem. Can you hear if the blower motor is still running when the air stops? If the motor continues to run and the air stops coming out of the vent, you should find that it is coming out of the defrost. That would be a vacuum problem.
Turning from blue to red while in vent should not effect the rear system. Changing from vent to heat will cause the air to stop coming from the top and come out of the bottom.
I can't recall if I heard the motor running I don't think it was. When the front vents stopped blowing the back ones did as well, that was before I switched from blue to red.
Both blower motors stopped? That's got to be an electrical problem. I don't have any diagrams here. Have you got a Haynes manual or better yet an EVTM?
I have a Chilton, now just wanted to mention that while this was happening I noticed that the area around the selector button was quite hot could this have anything to do with a recall on these vans that I read about, "the accessory power circuit"? Also I went out to see if I could recreate what happened and of course not, I did notice that when I put the heat on to floor that heat only came out the drivers side. It's getting cold up here in Saskatchewan so any other advice would be great. Thanks
Hey figured out the floor vent the passengers was blocked by the rug.Now smell antifreeze once in awhile just when fan is turned on sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.Anyways took off the heater core cover and had the heater running couldn't see antifreeze and couldn't smell it there where elso could I look. Thanks again in advance for your time.
pinhole leak in an underhood line/hose? monitor coolant level carefully.
there's other stuff to look for, but until we find the blower culprit, one thing at a time. just don't let that coolant get low.
