I am brand new to this site and dont know how to navigate it or anything. I have a problem with my truck and I was wondering if anyone could help me. First of all i am no mechanic bye no means so I need plain English . I got a 1987 F-150 bout 8 months ago. It had a broken harmonic balance so i drove it off the trailer and parked it. I didnt fix it then because I was waitin on the title.about 3 weeks ago I got the title, bought me a balacer and put it on. I was ready to crank it. NO FIRE!!! Its not firing a lick. Remeber it was fine 8 months ago. I had autozone check the igntion module or whatever it is that sticks out the side of the distrubtor and it was ok. Today i bought a coil. Still no fire. CAN SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME. I need all the suggestions I can get.
I hope you put in fuel stabilizer and let it run for a bit to get it into the fuel system before letting it sit 8 months.... If you didn't, you may need to drain the gas and flush the lines up to the engine.
You replaced the coil, are you NOT getting spark?
Do you hear the fuel pumps run for a second or two when you turn the key to ON?
No im not getting any fire. I did listen for the fuel pumps once but didnt really hear them run i heard more of a click but would that have anything to do with getting fire? The truck is turning over but asolutely no fire.
Do you hear anything? If not, check the battery. If you hear a click and then nothing, check the battery. If you hear it trying to do something, check the battery and the starter.
Take the plug with wires off the Ignition Coil. There will be two wires going to it, on one side there will be a White wire with a Light Blue Stripe. Put your test light on this wire, it should light up in the start or run pos. of the Ignition Switch.
Did it light up?
If it lights go and put the light on the other wire, it will be a Dark Green wire with a Yellow stripe. Have someone crank the engine and watch the light, is it flashing?
