I assume you are looking for a Ford Duraspark II ignition? Any 302 about mid 70's up should have what you need, car or truck, Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury. Look for the aluminum box on the fender that has a blue plastic piece where the wires go in. Some others have different color plastic pieces and are not the best to get.
Why would you want a HEI unit? Go with the Pertonix ignition. It's simplier and works great. You can still use your original distributor and rotor/ cap. I use em in all my vehicles.
What I really was looking for is a dist. that I can put in that is self contained, coil and all, with no other control boxes or such. I guess I'm not really sure that such even exist.
I'll take any and all ideas to update my ign. system.
thanks
Mike
Comes in several different flavors. If you can stomach the thought of a Chevy ignition on your Ford, they're supposed to be pretty good. I've never used one myself.
I had trouble with the duraspark ignition on my truck since I got it. The DUI ignition was a bit pricey, about $385, but thats really not so bad considering that it includes the coil, it is machined out of billet aluminum, and you can use your stock wires if you need to. I pulled the stock ignition, dropped in the dui unit, hooked up the 12V source, (that's all you need to run it!) The engine started easier, runs smoother and makes more power. I have had not had trouble with it since. This is the only way to go.
I just got one of the GM type HEI distributors for a 351w I'm building. It is a one wire unit so it's easy to hook up. I got it on ebay new for $120 bucks. I'll let you know how it works when I get the motor finished.

Sounds good, I was looking at them on ebay also.I'll be looking forward to hearing.
