chains?

If we could figure out how to replace the cables with the old-fashioned chains, the problem would be solved. I'm always looking at the cable ends on my 2001 to see if they're rusted or damaged, but you just can't tell for sure.

I'm surprised you got so many replies with such a simple question ! 900 lbs is nothing for that tailgate and those cables, especially the way your sled distributes it's weight, you could load a thousand pound bike if you wanted, as long as everythings in good shape and there's no rust.

How do I know, because mine has bent, or sagged and the top edge hasn't. Rolled an old coal/wood air furnace strapped onto a heavy duty dollie up two ramps and across the tailgate into the bed of the truck. The leading or top edge survived just fine. The hinge side didn't fare so well and sagged some. The cables also held just fine, althought I am sure, as stated above, you have to be careful on the condition of your cables. I am guessing the weight of said furnace to have been 800-900 lbs with two adult men as well. Not any more than my Harley bagger, just much more localized on those two little dollie wheels. Just my exp, glmf

Johnny O, yes that could damage the gate like I described, but thats not what happened in this case. It happened as we were loading the furnace, sort of watched it happen thing. It doesn't really affect anything, the gate still works fine and it isn't noticable when the gate is up,,,,glmf
