Garage Flooring

I was thinking about doing my floor with U-Coat-it. Anyone ever use this?
Pro's / Con's? Would it be better to just paint it?? Whats everyones feelings?

Thanks

After doing some research, I ended up just sealing my new floor. I went over it 3 times and I am very happy with it. Everything I read about coatings or paint sounded like trouble.

We have some floor coatings at work, and when they start to chip it is a big mess to repair.

^ Is your floor slippery when wet? I put a sealer down and its very dangerous when it is wet.

I do not think the sealer would be any more slippery than coating or paint. I mainly wanted to be able to wipe up spills and keep the dust down.

After researching the heck out of epoxy floor coatings, it all boils down to floor prepping... I'm about 1 weekend away from doing my floor and have decided to use Rustoleum epoxy shield. I love the tiles from Racedeck.com but man ae they expensive! Prepping is the key to epoxy coat adhesion, thus preventing "hot tire pick-up".

I lucked out and got enough 2'x2' rubber industrial floor tiles in black and white they have the raised circles that are about the size of a half dollar looks awsome and it not slippery when wet but it would have broke the bank if I had to buy them

DONT DO IT! That product doesn't work well. Even with a lot of surface prep, your hot tires are likely to pull it up. Quite a few friends have tried it and all have had problems. You want a polyurethane top coat for the epoxy. I used UCoat-It in a garage and it is a FAR superior product. In my current garage, I had an installer put down a 5 layer epoxy/flake (saturated) finish with the poly top coat. $3.50 s.f. They used shot blasters and diamond grinders to prep the surface even though it was new concrete.

I've worked in several machine shops that used industrial floor tile (Armstrong) You can do it yourself for about a buck a square foot, and you can wax it and strip it to maintain it. It holds up even with metal chips and forklifts. I want to do mine in black and white checkerboard (if I can ever get TO the floor...)

In Carlisle, PA where they have the swapmeets each year, they have a building whose floor has been coated with U-Coat-It. Wow! This floor has had thousands of people and vehicles and God knows what else on it, and it looks great. I think the stuff is fantastic, but the only drawback for me is its price. I've got over 2400 sq. feet to coat, and I'm afraid it may cost me more than the building did!

I've had the Rustoleum epoxy in my garage through two summers now. Living in Las Vegas, I don't think that tires can get much hotter when pulling into the garage after driving. I used the acid cleaning solution two times on the concrete before painting. I have had no problems at all with hot tire pickup. It love the way it looks and spills are much easier to clean up.

one word of warning with ANY floor coating. if you don't have the traction additive included, DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT park your motorcycle on it. the bike is fine, but if you have ANY dust or dirt on your shoes/boots, you will lose traction while bringing your bike in and drop it, possibly injuring yourself or bike. sorry just thought I'd bring that up. I found this out first hand at my sis-in-law's place. she has the U-Coat-It stuff and I nearly broke my leg, and it was quite difficult to say the least picking up my harley!!

I'm happy you're not having problems but from my experience, you're the rare exception.
