After driving my truck for at least a half hour it the idle goes to about 900 rpms and back down to 600 rpms which is what it normally idles at. When it starts doing this the truck starts shaking kinda like a 5.6K mod idle. If I put it in nutral it smoothes out. Now once you start driving it feels like the throttle isn't consistant. If you press it down a certain amount one time than you press it down again it may not be the same. It's an 01 with Tymar, Jody's 80hp tune and BTM. Personally I think it may have something to do with the PCM but what do you guys think? Thanks, Damon
Ok now it's gotton worse. What it's doing is when decelerating the injectors are kicking on but not all of them or on and off. I don't know for sure. I do know when I got the PCM from Jody I noticed when decelerating the injectors didn't kick right on like they did with the stock PCM. They always made a noise like they were going on and off then they would stay on. I don't know if my description is right because I don't know for sure if the pcm can turn injectors on and off. What I do know for sure is that if you are decelerating you don't hear injector noise until you hit the throttle or reach 30 mph. I'm gonna call Jody today to see what he thinks. By the way the truck just turned 67000 miles. I think it has the original CPS.
Have you checked the wire bundle for the injectors under the valve covers. The plug backs off making the engine run rough. Ford has a replacement plug and it's an expensive bill if the stealer R&R's it. Good luck

The PCM does control the injectors. When you lift your foot off the throttle the injectors are supposed to shut completely off...and they will stay off until the engine RPM drops below about 1300, at which point they will switch back on...or anytime you put your foot back on the go pedal will switch them back on.
So what ended up being the problem here. This sounds like exactly what my Excursion does. When I let off the accelerator while coming over a hill to a decline, my Excursion just starts to idol really rough and I have no power at all until I shut the engine off and restart it, then it's fine again. It's going to the dealership today, so any input would be helpful.
Take that truck to Autozone or another store that pulls codes for free as a start, just to see, at no cost. Then take it from there. That's what I would do before opening my wallet. Then I might look at my tranny situation if all checks out.

Thanks for the response. I actually have already taken it to Autozone and the code said it was ignition related, but he said it coudln't get any more specific than that and that I needed to take it to Ford (that was about 6 months ago). I haven't had any problems until recently again, now it does it all the time (every time I go anywhere). My buddy has a programmer and we hooked it up this past weekend and it said it was injectors (I don't remember the code #). I've got to have it fixed by Thursday as we're pulling the Toy Hauler out on a trip and I'm not going to keep resetting it every time I have to slow down. It gets worse when I have a load on. The Check engine light is still on and it costs $80 for the diagnostic from Ford. Any other ideas?
I forgot to mention also that I took it to a tranny shop and had them service it and they said that it didn't sound like a tranny problem, then they serviced it and said everything looked great, so he didn't think it was related. I have 129k miles on it.
For those interested. I took my Excursion in today and they called me this afternoon and said they were able to get it to duplicate the problem. The code reader said cylinder 4 misfire, but what's happening is the whole side is shutting down, so they think there may be a short or something in it. They didn't give me any more details than that and they said hopefully they can pinpoint it tomorrow morning, so we'll see what happens.
My O4 started bucking at highway speeds and surges of air is heard in the engine compartment. Took it at the Dealer Friday and they wound up replacing the $1000 turbo assembly. (under warranty of course) They keep the turbos in stock because it is a common problem with the 04' power strokes and older.

Just to follow up on this. The cylinder 5 wiring harness to the injector had rubbed on the motor and was shorting out. They replaced the wiring harness and everything's been great since. I got out of there for just over $200 too, which I was happy about.
