Well, I've posted several times here about what motor is in my truck. I think eveyrone seemed to lean to a 400. My problem is, I need new headers. But, after talking to some guys in the motor specific forum, their 400 headers are not shaped like the ones on my truck. The headers on my truck split around the motor mount. 2 tubes in back and the other 2 tubs split around under the motor mount then up. I'd hate to order soem headers and then have them not fit. I'm trying to make ordering these headers as painless as possible.
Any ideas on why my headers are this way? Suggestions?
WE do have a muffler shop. I don't believe they mess with installing headers. I think they just do all the other pipe. I might give them a call and see.
Do you want fender well headers or shorty headers that fit like the old exhaust manifolds?
Different companys prolly don't have the same tube bends as a other might.
Depends on how deep your pockets are. Sanderson Headers in CA. makes a set for the 351/400 family that are shorties. Take a look at my gallery. the fit was perfect. Mine are ceramic coated and still look new.
I was planning on going with full length headers. I'd probably almost go with manifolds just to get it sounding decent.
Maybe you guys are right. Maybe just the different companies run them different ways. If it is in fact a 400, then I'll go ahead and order headmans full length ceramic coated ones and hope for the best. I guess the pics are probably not accurate any way. Since every picutre looks pretty close to the same.
If your truck is a 2wd then the Headman Elites will fit nicely. If it's a 4wd then the collectors will be pointing directly at the transmission cross member. It may do that with the 2wd, I'm not sure but I know they will on the 4wd.
Careful with Hooker Super Comp's my truck had a pair on it when I bought it 15 years ago replaced them with a new set a couple of years ago and I couldn't get the starter in or out without unbolting them from the head and had to jack the body up (already had a 3" body lift) just to get it in.
This was on the passenger side obviously drivers side was OK.
