its the same up to the front of the cab, but forwards of that its radically different. the engine crossmember is a different shape and in a different place, and the steering box mounts in front of the crossmember on the 4wd, as opposed to behind the crossmember in the 2wd. i remember being told that you can not take the crossmember off a 4wd and put it on a 2wd, but i don't remember why.

I am doing this conversion right now putting 79 4wd drivetrain under a 76 2wd frame.
None of the holes have been where I thought that they would be so far including spring towers, shock mounts, trac bar mount, steering box mount, t-case crossmember mount.
The 4wd engine crossmember is welded in I haven't decided what to do with that yet I have 351M from my 79 the 2wd has a working 302 in it right now.
Much of the drivers side inner frame rail is boxed where the coil towers, trac-bar, and steering box mount all of this I will have to custom fabricate.
Because the body on the 2wd frame was in much better shape (North Carolina Truck) and my old 79 frame had a 3" body lift which I didn't want to use anymore and alot of the frame on my 79 has been molested/abused/bent etc..
