Making children behave

I have no children, so I have always been the resident expert on child raising.

Whenever I see a child misbehave, I want to smack the parents up side the head, for not making their children behave in public ...

Now , this is NO comparision to any child raising parents reading this, but I must share my new found knowledge about making little ones behave. I have not wanted another dog, since we had to kill our chow Kodi, over six years ago. My wife has been harping on me for six months now, about wanting another dog. I stood up to her as the 6'2, 240 pound male authority figure that I am , and told her loudly, NO PUP !!!!. ..

Sunny is a absolute doll of a golden retreiver pup. My wife being retired, is getting the thrill of all the work for Sunny, feeding, potty, training etc. My new knowledge is the making the pup behave part. My wife will put her in the vinyl floor room with the baby gate on the door, to make her lie down and go to sleep. Sunny rears up on the gate and barks and barks, whines and whimpers at me wanting me to let her back out...

My wife tells me to go over and push down hard on Sunnys little head, shove her to the floor with a loud vocal NOOO !! Yeah, right, with that precious face and sweet brown eyes looking at me while laying it on those blonde paws, no way. God meant for me to not have children , that is what my mean wife said to me.

I'm notorious for my love of misbehaved childred which is why a good friend of mine told me they were gonna buy me this shirt from T-shirt hell:

Dogs on the other hand are so cute and cuddly anyway (most of them). How could you beat a dog??? Unless of course it's a chiuaua

Remedy for misbehaving children:

1st misbehavior - Stern warning
2nd misbehavior - Small slap on hand
3rd misbehavior - Good slap on butt
4th misbehavior - Break out the belt
5th misbehavior - Lock in the closet until 18, feed nothing but raw meat, have military enlistment contract signed and waiting for recruiter to pick them up.

That's what my parents did!

Kidding of course.

My thread has some humor in it, via the smileys , but I meant to get another message across I think, that didnt come out as it should. As I said , I am not meaning to compare children to dogs. My point of truth in my thread is , I think I see now why parents do end up with misbehaving children. If I cannot discipline a 8 week old pup because it is so cute, and for fear I would lose its affection or that it may become leary of me, how could I ever raise a well behaved child ??....

In the days of old, like back when my Dad raised me, the Dads were tough, they were the head of the household. Dads and Moms back then were easily distinguisable as who set and enforced the rules of the home. Many times with me as a kid, (as I am sure other OF's here know of this ) , that after my Mom had made a good attempt of disciplining me and seeing I wasnt taking her serious enough , she would say , " I am going to get your Daddy, if you do not behave ! " That is all it took for this skinny redneck kid to straighten up and fly right...

For the old time Dads, and even those Dad's now that practice hard discipline on their children, I think we childless outsiders that are observing these bad parents that cannot make their children behave, lose sight of what being the "authority" figure of the household brings with it.. So, after dealing with this pup, and not wanting to discipline it for fear of losing her affection, and making her afraid of me, I have a different outlook on parenting and its disciplining regimen.

I see now that every time a Dad has to take the little one by the hand to render discipline, and that child looks at them with that sweet face and frightened eyes, I know now that the swats of Dad's hand to their little backside probaly hurts ole Dad, a lot more than the child... jmo

It shur does... We never had that much trouble with discipline, and a swat on the rear was a really rare occurance. No matter what anyone else sez, I'm convinced that's the way it should be- swat a pup too often and you'll have a dog that's afraid of you, instead of a confident, self-assured adult dog. Swat a kid too often, and it's pretty much the same story.

My parents stuck with #3 and threatened 4 and 5. Worked well enough for me. As far as my own (future) kids go, I'm going to start the punishments early. None of this namby-pamby time-out sh, uh, stuff... for them.

What I always thought was the worst when I was a kid was when mom would say "(First, middle and last name)--you wait till your father gets home!" Not "wait till your dad gets here" it was father. That meant mom was super PO'D!
