Batty 302

can I replace my EFI 302 with an inline six?
its an '88 F150 4x4 factory 4:10s' with an AOD trans. -I'm wonderin whats involved, -and hopin' its a quickswap, I figure I'll have to change the mounts, but I'm really kinda concerned with the present gearing I have, if its compatible with the six cylinder...the 302 is getting alittle noisy, and its getting long in the tooth as far as listening to it, and the price at the pumps are making me think about an alternative ..anyone done this switch? problems forseen?

mpg won't change much

MPG won't change much from a 302 to an inline 6. The truck inline 6 is 300 cid and will burn gas at almost the same rate. The change in mpg would be driving habits, smaller tires, fewer revs and lighter load on the truck.

Mileage likely won't change at all. There's a lot that goes into an engine swap. It will end up costing you more than you'll save in gas. 4.10's with an AOD - what size tires? If stock, that's going to rev a little high on the highway.

stock tires size-235's.. it would rev higher with the six?..didnt know that..
OK, I guess theres no sense in swapping for the six, I was readin through the forum here and stumbled onto someone wanting to upgrade from the 302 to a 351, and the feed back he got was that it would use less fuel because yould depress the accelerator less due to the power of the 351? - Ive been rollin' that one around in my head as well..
-whats your veiw on that?
