We pulled my C6 transmission out of my 77 F-150 4X4, to mate it up to a 351M I just bought. Everything starts out ok. We are able to get the torque converter to flexplate mounted. But as soon as we tighten the bellhousing to block, something seem to bind up the engine and we can't get the engine to rotate.
FYI...new stock torque converter. Also, there was a slight dent on the rear crankshaft collar adjacent to the flexplate, which we managed to fix. This 351 came out of a truck that was totaled.
Check to make sure the torque converter is all the way in the tranney, sometimes it is hard to get it all the way in, and that will cause the front pump in the tranney to bind up.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jun-02 AT 01:36 PM (EST)]converter isnt in the trans all the way. Or if this engine had a stick before you have to remove the pilot bushing from the crank.
Converter is all the way in, and we did remove the pilot bearing. My Brother-in-law took a look and it appears the flex plate was binding on the inside of the bellhousing. Well, we'll find out next weekend for sure.
