Hey guys, i manage to get air into the Power Stearing system(whiel relocating the cooler) and im having a pita geting it out..
what im doing right now: Front wheels are suspended, turn wheels from side to side, turn the engien on for a few seconds and let it sit. I have pumped the bakes twice while on but it foams like crazy.
i would appreciate any other ideas, techniques to bleed the air out asap..
I had the same problem with my power steering ,when i relocated my power steering cooler ( to add a 2nd trans cooler) i lost a lot of power steering fuild.
It took a half dozen times to top of the fuild to get the right level. that was over a couple of days of driving. Been working fine
I had the dealer replace the oil pan and in the process of test driving my truck, blew the power steering. They fixed it but I noticed a whining noise comming from the pump, so I called them back and they said there might still be air in the system. They told me you needed a special tool to get all the air out. Took it back to them and they said they rebled it. Still makes the whinning noise though. Is this normal?
they have a vaccume pump the put on it to draw all the air up out of the fluid. its just like a little mightyvac hand brake bleeder with a cork that fits in the pump spout. if you do it the old fashoned way....its have the front wheels up and just turn back and forth for about 10 min and let it sit. it took like 2 days for mine to bleed out when i had to replcae a steeering box.
I am guessing that you have HYDRO-BOOST? Had to do mine on Interstate. To get the air out of mine I filled res. while engine warm and running. Turned wheels all the way to the left (not back and forth) turn engine off and let it set till air (foam) disappears. Note: If you turn wheels back and forth, you will only transfer the air back and forth.Once foam disappears add fluid to proper level, and repeat above procedure turning wheels from straight to left until all air is gone. Make sure to keep fuild in res. Mine took two bottles.Should only take about 45 min to 1 hour. Hope this helps.LOL
u didtn needed to raise the wheels as everyoen else says? so:
1) turn on engine
2) turn wheel to the left
3) rest until foam disapears
4) add atf
5)go back to straight
6) let foam disapear
7) add atf
8) repeat steps 1-7
no turning the wheels to the right in this steps? at what point did you pumped the brakes? at the end?
I did not pump my brakes, they will come back when the air is purged from your lines. I was told at one time to turn the wheels to the left (only) and air does not enter brake system even though it feels like it does. This is becouse you have air in the HYDRO-BOOST.
Sorry got ahead of myself. Idid not raise my truck due to my circumstance but it would be easier to turn the wheel that way! Just make sure you moniter the fluid level closely becouse it will empty quick when the air leaves the system! When you have the wheels to the left and restart your truck turn to straight then back to left no need to turn off at straight wheels.
i found that "MITYVAC VACUUM PUMP " in amazon and other places online.. how do u use it? i see it comes with hoses.. i might get it just in case, it can be a time/life saver in the future.
