Don't know for sure what happened. Pulled up to a stop sign and it died like it ran out of gas. Mechanic said it is locked up tight. Also had water draining from exhaust and oil was gelled. It was running fine up until it died. I need advice on where to get a new motor. I THINK I have a "L" block. Will the later SOHC (2004) work in this without too much modification? Money is tight right now, so I need to do it as cheap as I can.
Thanks!
No matter what route you go as far as motors it's not gonna be cheap. The labor is what's gonna cost you. THe easiest way to change the motor is to separate the body from the frame. If you know of a shop that is able to do this then thats where you need to go. I have seen people change the motors without separation but you better make sure that they know what they are doing and have done it before, There is 0 room in the engine compartment to work on these trucks!
It sound to me like you blew a head gasket. I would start by pulling the plugs and try turning it over without the plugs in it. If you got water in the cylinders it will not turn over at all.... (hydro-lock). Water doesn't compress like air does.
