if you have a 78-79 f series you will have a hard time finding a new switch. Ford dealers only go back to 1980. Napa computer spits out the wrong switch that looks completely diffrent. the good news is that a 1980 without tilt steering is almost the same. it has an extra wire for cruise controll that will have to removed and the steering column has to be modified because the 78-79 turn signal arm sets just a little higher.
I bought one of those canceling cams from NAPA for my '78 with cruise and tilt, but the plastic was too soft-wouldn't work at all. A new switch from Auto Zone was $100.00! I ended up getting a switch from the junk yard, not sure what year, and had to modify it by cuttig the plastic some to fit my column. there was a small alignment pin on the bottom of my column that had to be cut off-kept shorting out. Two months now-no probs.
Do you have picture of the modofications that needed to be made? Would this also work in a 1977? How about a part# for what you got?
i do not have a picture do to the fact that my digital camera fell into a mud hole about a month a go. but the modification is simple all you have to do is take a die grinder bit about the size of your turn signal arm and grind a arc right below the arm about a 1/4 of inch. sorry about no part # i threw the box away already.
i bought one from NAPA for my 77. It was about $12. No cutting needed. They're out there. A lot of times at NAPA, they just need to look it up on the paper catalogs to get it right. I belive they changed them from 1977-1978 model years.
