How can I remove all the XLT Ranger exterior trim without messing it up? And how much can I sell that stuff for? It's on a 74 F100 and all the trim is there except for one of the wheel arches.
On each end of almost every moulding there is a stud with nut to remove.
After they are undone you can just unsnap the moulding from the plastic keepers with a flat screwdriver.
>I'm not seeing any studs or nuts. Are they buried
>underneath? Do I have to pry the trim away from the body to
>see?
And also how do I remove the windshield trim? This truck has the shiny strips that cover the rubber and would look good on my other truck, better than the strip that sits in the middle of the rubber.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Jun-02 AT 01:28 PM (EST)]The nuts to hold the large body trim are accessible.
Front fenders:
Open the doors and see the nut on the end fender at the hinges
Box:The front/rear trim nuts are accessible from up inside the side of the box.
Is this a super cab or reg cab?
The nuts are accessible in the cab.
The windshield trim just snaps into place.
The wiper arms:
Take a pair of needle nose pliers and a rag and something to use as a fulcrum piece of 1" dowel or 2"x2"
Wrap the rag around the fulcrum spread the pliers so they fit just under the silver part edges where they attach > Then Push down on the handle (Prying up the end and Voila!) they are off.
the windshield trim is held in teh rubber by tension. the bast way to remove it is to take the windshield out and remove the rubber. you will need a different gasket for the winshield if you want to reuse this on yours. the front fender upper chrome is a little difficult to remove as there are three nuts. one you can get to after you remove the door trim and then open the door and it is in the jamb (not much fun!) there is also one a few inches behind the marker light and one in front of the marker light. the front one can be accessed by removing the turn signal lens from the grille (you will see a small hole into the fender). the rear 1/4 trim is easier as it has a nut just above and in front of the wheel well and if it has lower body trim it will aslo have some nust inside the tailight hole. i just did this and it was not fun. hawkrod
Thanks to your help I figured out the side trim. Instead of 3 nuts on the front fender trim, mine has nut inside door, nut above wheel well and screw in front of marker light. Figuring out lower trim too, cab corners were easy, turn screw, rust breaks, trim falls off. LOL. How about the piece on the tailgate around the handle? There's no screws throught the gate like the "FORD" panel, is it just held on by plastic clips? Haven't tried windshield yet...
