Today I noticed rear carpet was a little wet, come to find out the very rear of the floor panel is rusting thru in spot, right along the back edge. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to repair? Did you rivet in some new sheet metal? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Shiny
Hey. I didn't do the back but i did the front driver's side.
Just buy 1.5mm sheet metal and some selfscrewing bolts. Get a drill and metal scissors. Then you will need silicone paste(like from HomeDepot). I painted inside wilth black and did the bottom with underbody sprayer. Cut all the rust out. Then out the sheetmetal on, and cut becnd it to fit. Then put silicone on the edge and just screw it in with those selfscewing bolts. I put one each 1.5 inches.
I can see why rusting out in the back seat area is a problem. When I was cutting out the rusted metal I could see the flaw in the design. On the bottom of the frame there a 2 rectangular cut outs that leave the area behind the rear seat flooring wide open to having water and everyhing thown up into these holes. What a poor design.

I have very little rust in the rear of the truck but some behind the parking brake controller and another spot by the left front of the seat next to the door. I did the bondo thing with undercoating on both sides in both places, but I like the bolt-on sheet metal idea for the hole in the floor pan. Would several layers of soda can aluminum provide the same strength/effect or should I use a single piece of 1.5 mm sheet metal for strength & durability?
I had some in the same area on mine. To repair I used 16ga steel and welded it in. While welding I used a body hammer to tap it into form with the rest of the floor pan. Then sprayed both side with rust inhibitor primer.
Yeah, just want you to be aware: if you are leaking some H2O in when it is heavy raining, don't forget to put a water release bolt in the lowest place of the "new" floor panel.(learned it the hard way)
