truck ID
Hi, sorry to disappoint you, but the engine number means nothing to anyone today - only the guys that cast it. There just isn't much info available for these trucks. The serial number tells the approx year, engine, size of truck and the consecutive unit number. That's all.
The truck should have a data plate on the firewall in the engine compartment (passenger side), and a rating plate on the inside of the glovebox door. Both will have the serial number. If both of these are missing, there will also be the serial string stamped into the top frame rail up near the passenger side motor mount (some have it on the driver's side)
Let us know what you find.

I do have a plate, but it must have been from the truck that some extra parts were from. The serial number is 98RC377127NR. Also, how can you if the truck is a 1948, or 1949 if you do not have a number plate?

Take a wire brush and on the drivers side top of frame rail, near the steering box.
Wire brush this area and you should come up with a serial number. Put it here on the forum, and I am sure someone will tell you what year it is. Does it have a front mount distributor right in front of the fan, or one to the passengers side? If it has the front one it is a 48, but not in all cases, it could be a late 48. I am refering to a V8 now not a 6.
If you can get the number post it and I will try and decipher it for you.

From what I am getting from your numbers, and I could or possibly am wrong but the first digit would either indicate a late 47, or early 48 with a 6 cyl engine.
Does your truck have a split front windshield, or a 1 piece glass? Check the top of frame rail and see if you can find the numbers, or include more of the numbers.

Check this site for what you are looking for. You will see that at the top of the page it does indicate U.S. built trucks.
I was wrong in my previous post, I thought I might have been. Anyway good luck, and post it if you have any luck.
