I really should be able to fix this problem, but it has me pulling my hair out! My truck will die intermittently and sometimes will not start. The "wait to start" light won't come on when when I'm trying to restart it. When the light does come on, the truck will start. I assumed I was having a PCM problem, but even with the new PCM (which is GREAT BTW), it did it again this morning. So here's what has been done:
New DP Tuner PCM
NEW CMP/CPS (although I knew it wasn't the problem, was getting desperate)
Checked all wiring harnesses, fuses, connections, etc...
I truly believe that I'm losing power to the PCM, but can't figure out why. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
No not losing complete power, just to my PCM. Really weird. I'm gonna dig into this weekend, hopefully the problem will rear it's ugly head... I will check the grounding issues though, good point.
maybe some pin barely making contact or bent since you have disconnected it(pcm) a few times. and since you have a programmed pcm you have no chip installed right? if you have a chip try taking it off.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I finally figured out the problem was a short in the power wiring for the gauges that was causing an irregular voltage drop and creating some pretty weird stuff. Fixed the gauge wiring and moved it to a seperately fused power source and BAM! No more problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I figured I'd go through all the aftermarket stuff that was wired through the ignition first. I ordered a new pyrometer and am waiting for it to get here, so I figured I'd go ahead and pull the pod out and check the wiring there. Found the power wire going to the pyro pinched and grounding out on the pillar. Just got lucky I guess, but I'll take a little good luck any day! I did go ahead and solder, shrink wrap, and bundle all of it this time (I did a rush job last time and ended up paying for it, lol), so it shouldn't be a problem again.
That's generaly the same troubleshooting route I take as well...check the stff that I've done first.
I had a similar problem last year with my park lights. Pinched a wire under the A-pillar, and every time it grounded it popped the fuse and shut the running lights off.
Lol, yeah if I took the time to do it right the first time... You know what they say, "Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from poor judgement".
