Has anyone ever used a Sac. Vintage power steering kit . They include box and pump , hoses , bracket etc in kit for $595 . Price is better than most . If no-one has used their kit has anyone ever dealt with them ?? if so recommend or not
thanks jeff
I had several dealings with them. It’s sort of a love-hate relationship. They carry a WIDE range of stuff for our trucks and they have the best catalog I’ve ever seen. However, they slap every surcharge you can think of on their orders and they don’t have an automated email order acknowledgment or order shipped system (maybe I’m spoiled from giving Summit Racing so much of my money). And the functionality of their webpage leaves a lot to be desired….
But I’ll keep dealing with them cause they have what I need and thus far, the stuff has been fine…..
Have been there in person a few times. They are a great bunch of guys. It's great to see the parts in person before buying them.
I've only had one order that I had shipped. Since I'm about 200 miles south of Sacramento, I had my order at my house almost the next day after ordering it.
I would agree that their catalog (and LMC catalog) are one of the best. The website, however, leaves less to be desired, but it is useful.
best check description again carefully, when I just read it the PS pump was not included.
You can buy the rebuilt PS box over the counter at Carquest for 300.00 and Mid fifty sells their complete conversion kit (w/o box) for 245.00. I really like the MF mount, it's quite substantial compared to the strap mounts and you don't need to drill any extra holes.
Yes, I used Mid Fifty's kit. I was very pleased with the quality and with working with them. My truck was equipped with a ram style power assist when I bought it, so it already had a pump mounted. It's a Saginaw pump as used on GM (I have a SBC in my truck) and some Ford products. It can be readily identified by it's characteristic teardrop shape. They are very plentiful in the bone yards, just look for one that's full of fluid but is clean and dry on the outside and it's probably a good one. You can use almost any pump except one from a luxobarge (Lincoln, Caddy) as they run at a higher pressure to give the bluehairs fingertip steering so they can run into buildings and pedestrians with no steering effort.
thanks AXracer , i will probably go with mid 50s kit , so far several other people have recomended them too . What besides the bracket did you get from them ?
thanks jeff
I got some additional parts from them as well as the kit: new floor plate, Ididit column (I found the 32" length too long tho and shortened it 2", recommend ordering a 30" column), billet swivel column drop (again, wait until you do the install to decide what length drop is right for your steering wheel and seats), billet swivel floor mount, PS hose set (I had to return the hoses, the return fitting would not quite clear my headers, but that would depend on what engine and headers you are using. They were great to work with accepted the return 6 weeks after I purchased it for a full refund. They really care about their customer's satisfaction!).
thanks again AXracer . For now i am going to use the stock colum but i will get what i need from mid50s !! my headers will probably be a problem but i wont know for sure till i get the box in and that is going to take a while , need to save some bucks . I have a bid in on ebay for a box (112.50)
