Need Help Starting 89 7.3

Here at work we have an old crab delivery truck 1989 7.3 automatic Diesel F-Superduty pickup with a reefer insert that has sat for two years. I know that the batteries are both dead. I tried to jump the truck using my F150 (I attached it to the correct battery per the owners manual) Nothing...just a couple of dash lights and clicking from the starter. I thought about swapping the battteries out of our 1995 powerstroke truck.

What would be the correct steps to revive this workhorse?

All your advice is greatly appreciated.

I would try batteries first. If that dosent do it then you might have a stuck starter. You said it would click but not try to turn the engine over correct? Try getting a hammar and tap on the starter. If it is sticking then it might free it up. if that works then you need to get a new starter. let me know if you need anymore help. GL

I would check the oil and fuel for contamination. Hand turn the engine to ensure its not siezed or hydrolocked before attempting a start with two diesel rated batteries. Connect a direct fuel line from fresh fuel can to the lift pump until old fuel is checked or removed. Fuel filter replacement would be wise, with addition of a fuel additive ie Powerservice for diesels. Any bad fuel should go into the tanks from the system.........

put in 2 fresh batterys. your 150 single battery with jumper cables will only provide enough power to do what you said, turn on some lights and a click or 2.
with fresh batterys and a check to see that all fluids are good, it should start up. my 88 7.3 sat for 3 years with a bad trans, and only took less than 1 min of cranking to fire up.

if your starter is good, dont overwork it by too long of cranking periods ... about 20 seconds at a time and let it cool down for about 2 minutes between.
loosen the injector lines til you get fuel to that point and then retighten them, it should start right up.
