Which steering columns will work in my 1970 F-100? I would like to get a tilt wheel for an automatic transmition. I have heard that steerting columns through '79 will bolt in.
Will any 80-present columns work with out much modification? I have the power steering gear out of a 77 (the column was picked and pulled by someone else before I got the gear), I can get the column from a 95-96 from the same place but there are none left in the 70's trucks he has.
Any columns from 67-79 should just bold in if they are the same length. The no power steering models were longer and the trucks with power steering had shorted columns. I had to make mine shorter because I swapped to power steering. I think if you used a column out of a later vehicle it would work just fine. You would have to make new linkages for you shifter and figure out what wires went where for turn signals and such. Maybe cut a larger hole in your firewall.
