So I've read some of the posts on how hard it is to convert from a 2wd set up to a 4wd, but is it equally hard to do the reverse? I know the cross members are different and the steering box is different, but can I just change out the axle for spindles and new linkage?
Well I'm not fully decided, but what I did about 8 years ago was mount a 1950 F3 body on my 1979 4x4 frame. It just sounded like a good idea. I love the truck, but it never sees offroad duty. So I plan to make it more of a cruiser, not a low rider, but to make it more driveable on the street I want a transmission with an overdrive, and having the truck be 2wd gives me more options. So I'm just trying to weigh my options.
I'm trying to limit the amount of fabrication. Are there any IFS kits available? I'd love to hook up rack and pinion too, but I'm kind of looking for the easiest way out.
Mostly because we had to do some work to the front clip to get the front end pieces to fit. So I think refabing the body mounts would be more work. If I change frames I'd just go get a 1950 frame, but those generally come with more sheet metal and stuff I don't need. But those are just more options, I'm trying to keep this inexpensive too.
Is it a 3/4 or a half ton? And where are you located? I have all kinds of 3/4 ton 2wd stuff and would am looking for 4wd 3/4 ton stuff. Maybe we could work out a trade if your west cost.

That would have been nice, but mine is half ton stuff. The 3/4 ton uses leaf springs right? Because I'm pretty sure mine is a 1/2 ton, it has the coil springs. I'm in Detroit too.
