engine help

I started up my families 75 F100 truck after not been started in a while and it makes a funny sound. If I dont give it gas it will die on me. Also it makes a funny straining sounds. It has oil but it is very thick. I am trying to fix up the old truck for me to drive. I am only 15 but have done alot to this truck. Can some tell me where the oil plug would be located on my 360 V8 75 truck. Also any help on the engine noise would be helpfull. Thanks-

First thing's You should change the oil, The plug is most likley on the back or Side of the Oil Pan, This is connected to the bottome of the engine, you can probaly crawl under the truck and find this, Next would be there is an Idle adjust srew on the Carb somewhere but It might be better just to run the truck for a while, first once you mess with the idle adjust things might not ever get back to being how they are suppose to be, How old is the Gas in the Truck? if it is old you might want to drain the tank and add new Gas Old gas dosn't make vechiles run worth squat, If the truck wont Idle on new gas then maybe look at the Idle adjust and check all your plugs and wire's are they good? how about the cap and Rotor?
just some Idea's for you, I am by no means an expert on engines so take a grain of salt with my comment's LOL

44,
What type of motor do you have?
How many miles are on it?
How long has it been sitting?
What kind of noise is it making?
Where is the noise coming from?
Can you drive the vehicle around the yard?
Change your oil while the motor is hot. Change the filter to.
Get me some info and I'll square you away.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Jun-02 AT 12:19 PM (EST)]On my 76 F-100 360 the oil plug is at the back of the oil pan on the bottom of the lower portion of the pan. In all Ford's infinite wisdom not only is it right above the frame cross member, its also angled down towards the frame so its more aggravating than it should be, both draining the oil and removing the plug. So, good luck with it and your truck!
