took my 1986 f-150 4x2 camping this past weekend. pulled my camper with this truck for the first time I went on a 3 hour away trip. It seemed like on a hill there was a skiping but it was the transmission not the engine it seems to be running fine, It got worse as I went on It started shuttering like it was running on 6 cylinders.(has a 302 efi)It would do better if I backed out on the throttle but as I stated it was bad when I had to pull hills. Put some lucas treatment in the tranny and made it back home barely. Any ideas as to what is going on is it just shot or what. Plenty of fluid in the tranny. Any troubleshooting tips or test I can run to determine the problem. thanks scott dove
I still have the window sticker for the truck and all it says is a 4 speed automatic I konw it is the original tranny. door code is T. I dont think it is the engine for 2 reasons one there is tranny fluid all over the front of my camper and tow chains and secondly I can shift the tranny in neutral when it is acting up and it idles right up and sounds fine. so what do you think. any more information you may need I will try and get. thanks scott
