'93 F250 7.3L 4x4 E4OD Trans. My speedometer needle has stopped and the ABS idiot light is on. Shifting takes place at higher RPMs and is hard shifting, I have had nothing to do with an electronic tranny before First problem with this truck.

Correct the speedometer problems and 99% of the time the transmission will shape up.
Look at all electrical connections under the vehicle. Not only at the transmission but differential too.
Like stuart1 said, the speedo is most likely the root. The ABS takes it readings from the wheel speeds and input from speedo to make corrections. That's were the light is coming from. As far as the tranny shifting hard, same problem. The computer gets readings from the TPS and the speedo to make it's shifts accordingly and right now it's trying to do it with missing data. Get the speedo fixed.
Thanks guys the sensor is on the diff and is broken off, I read your reply Stuart1 after I had removed the harnass for the tranny and checked all wires, all good. But I did not think of the diff nor do by books show it there. Thanks again!
I have the same problem with my 1991 e-150 van. It shifts hard and to the wrong gears and I felt it slip when in 2nd gear too.I took another tranny out of a 1992 e-250 and replaced the 1st one with it and its doing the same thing only now my speedometer not working and my "rear antilock" light is on and stays on.Do I need to replace the speedo cable itself or just the part that goes in the tranny that has the 2 wires plugged in to it.

Reason: more info
I think I figured it out...the van that the tranny came out of had a digital speedometer and had no cable and the van I installed it in had no digital speedometer and had a cable. So now that I figured that out is there anyway I can still use it?
