I have been told of a "test tube", which is a replacement tube in the exhaust bolted in in place of the cat. That way, you could pull the test tube and re-install the cat when going in for service.
Just had MBRP 4" Stainless Exhaust installed on my '06. Went with MBRP since they incorporate the factory cat in the install. I believe Banks does this as well. Looks and sounds great. Wanted to keep the kitty strictly for warranty purposes.
I welded a pipe, I'm running banks exhaust no cat. I didnt think it would void my warranty I have to bring my truck in on monday for a new rear main seal. why would it void my warranty.
I just took my cat off, The truck sounds great and the turbo sounds awsome. I cant tell any performance changes. Is this good or bad for the truck.
Its not bad for the truck.
It is however illegal, (a violation of Federal Law, regarding to the Clean Air Act), and if your State/Local government decides to start inspecting diesels, it could wind up expensive. And as stated before, Ford thinks dimly of it, so if you have a problem with your turbo, even though the exhaust didn't cause the problem, you'll probably wind up with denied coverage.
From now on, ALL diesels will have more than just CC's, CCV's, etc. They will have to have something to reach the lower NOx levels mandated, and help with the new ULSD.
