On my F 250 when this happened, it was the speed sensor, it was just dirty. How many miles on your Expedition?

Dirty Speed Sensor. Mine did same. It was an irregular blink with no pattern.

i have a 02 expedition 65,000 miles runs fine just the light comes on and blinks sometimes

It's essentially functioning as a "Check Transmission Light". The source code can be read, but not with an OBDII reader, so the AutoZone boys won't be of much use here.
