$600?!?! This isn't what I should look to spend for a reliable jack now, is it? Like I said, I'm not out there everyday...I'm only a weekend warrior who needs a jack, but not a $600 one.
Yeah, I know...I thought about that after I hit post, but $600 was a steep number for the jack that was pictured. I did some looking around and found some on like, Craftsman's site and Northern Tools. It looks like $1-200 will grab me a 3 Ton jack that reaches up to 21". Some of them have no mention of whether or not they're spider gears (my old one) or universals.
You don't have to spend any were near 600 to get a good service jack. I bought one at sams wholesale club for about 60 bucks 12 years ago. It is a 3 ton model. It maybe ugly after heavy use but it has picked up literally hundreds of vehicles. The only problem I have had with it is the bolt holding the handle together kept wearing down or coming out. It was a simple fix I drilled the hole large enough to put a tractor pto pin in it. I think nowadays 100 would be a fair amount to spend on a hobbyists jack.
