Toyota Steering Box?

I have been hearing about this Toyota steering box for awhile now. I have a 53 F-100 and am interested in this improvement. What year box will fit my truck, and what is involved in the instalation?
Also what are the benifits over the factory one, and are there any cosmetic changes inside the cab? Changes refered to are column, wheel, etc. Thanks in advance to all replies.

Wow! you have a gorgeous truck!!!

The toyota box you are looking for is from the 1979-1984 4x4 trucks. Here is a couple of articles on the install;

There are several guys around here that have installed it on the 53-56 trucks. Its a quick and easy install.

Good luck
Bobby

I used the kit (bracket, pitman arm & nut, U joint) from Mid Fifty, made it a couple hr bolt in swap. It gives you a no slop recirculating ball design power steering box that is ~ the same size as the OEM box. It works so well it seems like it was made for it.
You can use the original column, you just need to saw it off the box (the shaft and box is one piece) shorten the housing, install a lower centering bushing (Mid Fifty) and grind 2 flats on the shaft to make it a doubleD shape to fit into the universal. The only small complication with using the stock column is you will lose the horn button function in the center of the steering wheel so you'll need to add a push button switch somewhere for the horm.
