Nothing against hemis but I everytime Im next to one at a stoplight or when ones behind me they want make sure there ahead off me. There always revinn there motors up trying to race i suppose. I drive a PSD. They wanna prove something I guess. I was on a straight lane highway one day an one was behind me he was creeping up on me I was getting faster an faster just to test him out. We were going about seventy when he blasted on by me going a lot faster. Geez some guys. The Dodge diesel guys are not like this at all. But those hemi guys definitly another story. Im not in to racing or anything but my PSD would put these guys toshame pretty fast. Any similar experieces guys.
Seems like anyone on a motorcycle is the same way, they have to be going faster than everyone else. I have seen 1 motorcycle rider doing the speed limit in the 11 years I have been driving.
yea me and a few of my friends were hangin out one night and a guy in an extended cab dodge, WITH A HEMI, asks one of my friends if he wants to race. we had no clue who the guy was, but my friends do have some nice cars. they all have muscle cars, but i got the truck for takin the boat out. he must have accidently asked the wrong person, because ended up he got completely destroyed my my best friends 69 chevelle with a 454. oops!
The guy reving the hemi, had too. Those engines don't make power down low like real trucks, they need high RPMs to make power.
My biased opinion is that the new hemi is really marketing hype and almost purely a car engine. Mopar is marketing the new hemi off the mystique/reputation etc of the "legendary" hemis of the 60s. The new engine is a hemi type design, as are many if not most modern twin cam engines including lowly rice burners. But they are very dis-similar to the big hemis of yore. Those were stump puller engines and great for power. Yet for torque applications, even the old hemi wasn't as good as a plain old wedge head engine like the 440.
So even though the new hemis aren't really hemis to the purist, since it is from Mopar they can use the mystique as a marketing tool.
In my opinion and some of the car mags, the engine is not well suited to heavy duty applications such as full size pickups that are used for more than just substitute cars. They are great for a vehicle that can wind up and doesn't need to pull a lot of weight but they are not well suited to real pickup applications. I think the tow ratings on those trucks tell the story. As I recall the hemi truck has a lower rating than a plain Jane engined truck from Dodge.
Still they would be fun engines in the right vehicle. I wish my new Ford vehicle had one of the new 425hp hemis in it. The 3.9L V8 in my Lincoln is rather pityful off the line.

There was 454 in 1969 Chevelle? I thought 454 wasn't offered in Chevelle before 1970.
not original
not even close to it... the kid is spoiled big time
if this tells ya anything he is getting new front quarters, doors, bigger cowl induction and hood, and a paintjob totalling over 10k for his birthday....and none paid for by him
im pretty sure that they did have 454s in 69 chevelles, but they were a special package... somethin like L71 or L70 or some kinda package like that
funny thread lol, Ive had one of those hemi boys ask me to race, and the good thing was that I was actually at a 1/4 mile track. He asked to run against him and with an evil smirk I said "im ready when you are" the guy hit a 16 something 1/4 while I hit a 14 second flat(poor guy). Some guy with a Dodge SRT-10 couldnt get anything lower then a 14.6 That was a good day for me and my truck 04 PSD Excursion
What I like doing is smoking ricers in my moms car lol. It's a 96 camry XLE with the DOHC 24v 3.0 V6. Most of the ricers around here consist of primer paint jobs, body kits about to fall off at high-way speeds, and no hubcaps. The camry eats them for lunch lol. Ain't so fast and furious now are ya? Me and the ricers around here don't get along, infact, I almost got arrested cause I took my dip out and threw it on one of their hoods, and he acted big and bad. He's lucky a Sheriff was on duty...in the Mcdonalds drive through (We were in the parking lot). I was about to see if I could take out 3 of his teeth in one punch! I need to think before i act...
Any ways, Hemi guys act like they have something extra-ordinary under the hood. Maybe if someone put a new fake hemi in a dakota it would be decently quick.
I wanna pull up next to a Hemi ram and be like "that thing gotta hemi" and if they say "yea" I'll be like "dont kid yourself, its not a hemi, if you dont beleive me take the heads off and see for yourself...if you know what heads are"

Ehh, dont let it get to ya...I sometimes drive a 4.7L Ram. It aint that fast.
I noticed that Dodge guys, buy MAINLY chevy guys are always bashing the other brands. For example, I see a bunch of chevy's with that "Eatin Ford's EDIT Dodge's". I never see a Ford that has any kind of silly sticker like that. We Ford guys are more calm and let the trucks do the talkin
What mad me shake my head was when i saw a sticker on a ram that said "friends don't let friends drive Ford's. Obviously friends don't let friends drive dodges, cause there are 3 Fords for every Dodge I see on the road. The rest are in the tranny shop...
