Ok, my 1994 B2300 developed a problem recently, it would not run, it would try to start, but not run. Plus when I shut the key off and got out to see if I could figure out what was wrong, I found gas dribbling out from under the bed. So I pulled the fuel tank down, found a hole in one of the fuel lines coming out of the fuel pump, fixed that and put the tank back up, tried it and it ran, plus when I shut it off, no fuel leak. Thought I was good. Well anyway, put the tank back in place, brackets etc. Took it off the jack stands fired it up and backed it out of the garage, when I looked back to the front I could see a trail of wetness following me out. After I parked the truck and got out and looked, fuel poring down from the top of the tank. Bummed! Not sure what to do next, truck has 175000 miles and looks like a golf ball from being in a hailstorm.
Did you check the area where the fuel pump mounts to the tank? I've heard of cases where the pump mounting gasket eroded over time and allowed some leakage. I've also heard of a case or two where the locking retainer ring loosened up and caused leakage.
Then there is the fuel vapor valve (a/k/a the EVAP valve) that is a push fit into the tank using a rubber grommet. I've heard of leaks from there, too.
Another thing I recall reading about is a case where fuel was leaking out where the filler pipe joins up with the tank.
I can second that EVAP grommet, my truck leaks from there if I fill the tank all the way. Anyone know where I can get a new grommet? For now, I just don't fill it all the way. That would be easier if my fuel gauge worked, but I've got it down now.
