unhooking both batteries for a more than a half hour will reset everything, and it will erase codes. it MAY be a CPS problem.

I would take that one step further and say it's probably a camshaft position sensor problem. Given the available information.

If you have a computer installed "piggy back" chip, problems could be caused by loose contact between the chip and circuit board. Try cleaning these contact points.

Unhook either side and it only takes 5 to 10 minutes. Turn on your headlights to drain any residual power. That is all it takes.

Probably. Autozone around here will scan it for free and tell you what is wrong. May want to try that route 1st.

i just hooked up a superchips tuner to my 99 superduty and it comes up as "not original diagnostic settings" or something like that. if i reset the computer by unhooking the batteries, do you think that would do the trick. thanx

Wow...old thread. Were you installing the tuners performance program, or using it for it's diagnostics when you got that message?

This time I decided to look at the original posting date before answering. When my Superchip quit years ago I of course replaced the CPS. Still no start, so I just had it towed to the stealership. The stealership told me the chip had everything out of whack and pulled it. It worked and it took me a few days to get a new chip from Superchips, but it's been fine ever since. But now I have my brandnew DP 6 tunes, and it's a lot more fun than just a single setting 80 hp chip, although without the Superchip my truck was no fun at all to drive.

Wasn't there a Ford recall on the CPS and won't they replace it for free?
