Hey guys need help. working on a 89 2.9 broncoII. It starts and runs fine cold but when it gets hot it acts like it is flooded and the exhaust smells like it is running rich. checked codes, I get a code 11 with koeo and the same with koer. Acording to the actron book that is a system pass. I checked the fuel pressure according to directions posted in this forum it appears to be ok. ?????? Need help.
That's a tough one. How consistent is it? Everytime the engine reaches a certain temperature (easy enough to check by monitoring voltage across ECT)? A certain time from startup? What does the fuel pressure do when it acts up? Any fuel in vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator when it acts up?
No fuel in vac line. I forgot to mention that I changed the temp sensor. I also installed a manual gauge to check engine temp. I have not left gauge hooked to fuel to see what happens, I will try that. When the engine reaches normal temp is when It seams to have trouble. Drive it around the block several times shut it off and try to restart it acts like it is flooded I have to press the accelerator peddle to the floor and it will start. It will run rough for a second or two then smooth out. It smell like it is running rich. Thanks for your help.
Might be a leaking injector. When you checked KOEO fuel pressure did you watch the gauge for a couple of minutes to see if pressure dropped?
If I remember correctly it did drop a small amount. I am going to hook the gauge back up and try to run it so I can drive and see what the gauge is reading while driving.

Everytime mine did that, it meant the TFI module was toast, and $30 later it was running fine. So, I use to keep a spare and the 1/4 ratchet to change it in the glove box.
UPDATE. Well I went and bought a new TFI module today to try and see if that worked. Pulled up in the drive way popped the hood and just for tickles and grins I pulled the vac hose off the fpr again and fuel went everywhere. Now this is not the first time I had done this so I don't understand why fuel was not there before. I had even used a vac pump to check, it held vac. ???? Guess I have a spare module now and will go get a fpr in the am. Does the vac line from the plentum go to the fpr? Straight manifold vac or controlled by something else?
