I have an 02 f-350 with an older Hypertech programmer, 50hp 110trq, NAPA filter, turbo back full 4 inch exhaust, and a wicked wheel. I tow about 8,500 lbs. at any given time I can get well over 1250 if I don't watch the guages. Also the only time I'm in OD is on a long interstate run. Was wondering if I got a newer programmer if it would lower my EGT's. When I got the hypertech it was the only one around. I had it on my 01 f-250 but I took 2 phone poles out with that one and stole all my mods off it before they came to take it away.
Anybody running the Hypertech III programmer out there and what kind of EGT's are you getting.
I have been running the newer Hypertech for about a year in my early 99. From what I have heard, there is no comparison to the older version. I pull pretty much any trailor (up to 10,000#) with it set on the 100hp setting and my egt's stay under 1200*, even in the mountains. When I pull my 14,000# 5er, I set it back to the 70 hp setting and except on a really long steep grade, I do not have any temp issues. Going across the pass at Cumberland MD, (I think it is a 7% grade, 4 miles long) I have to back off a little, but all in all, I am real satisified. I don't think it makes the HP numbers it says it does (maybe because of the early 99 turbo, injectors, etc), but it is still a huge difference between stock and the 100 hp tune. I run it there all the time except when pulling the 5er.
I also have the newer programer and I never have an issue with the temps. I used to only tow around 7000#, but I also have 37" tires and stock gears and it would pull just fine. Didn't use overdrive very much though. So maybe thats why it was cool. But you figure my final gear ratio with 37" tires and 3.73 gears it would be an overdrive ratio.
I've not had a problem with high EGTs with my Hptk Programmer. I pull a 10,000# trailer some and the only Hill is a high bridge around the parts. Never seen 1,200 with it.
