I reconize alot of those numbers from Tom Monroe's book and they are wrong. I have his book as well as a set of SCJ heads and two SCJ intakes. The intake numbers are correct except the Z should have been an E. His book also says that the C9 heads are CJ or Police heads which they are not.
This mis-information has been posted several times and some people think that since it was printed in a book that it can't be wrong.

Since I have my 429CJ numbers here infront of me the CJ/SCJ heads are D0OE-R, Block is a D0VE-A (4 bolt thick web), Intake is a D0OE-9425-D, Crank is a 4U stamping, factory guideplates are D1OE-6A564-AA, Valve covers are D0OE-6583-A.

I wrote down the numbers when dissassembling the motor for clean up before I sell it. If you need any more numbers let me know.

That explains a lot Tom Monroe's books are noted for having nothing but bad info, and lots of info on what not to do or look for in ford engines his stuff is flatly not to be trusted period.
and hotrod is the one that published the erroneous info about truck blocks bieng 4 bolt mains as well as a lot of other once again erroneous information, but of those sources may actually no something about chevies but not a dang thing about fords.
Also it was pointed out in a round about way but whenever you see someone post a casting number for an engine part ending in Z it's wrong, take a good look at all the casting numbers, and you will see a pattern, and that is they all end in E why you ask mainly because the last of the 4 digits designates what type of part it is in this case E stands for Engine.

you need to check that block casting again it should be D1VE-AB most likely. There isn't a D2VE block casting that I have ever seen or heard of. They used the D1VE casting number from 71-78.
Best thing you did was put the D3VE heads on it though bet you found a pretty good improvement expecially in the ability to run lower grade gas without pinging.

thanks

Yea im sure it said D2VE casue I had the whole motor apart when I was redoing it and I wrote down the block, head, and intake numbers and also the manifolds and stuff to check them up.Yeah the d2ve heads are open chambers the d3ve are closed, so Im hoping I picked up a little bit power there.

I am serious look again right above the starter where the block casting numbers are and I will bet you a free club FTE membership (meaning I will pay for you a 1 year membership out of my pocket) that it doesn't say D2VE if it does please take a picture of it that is clear enough to read cause there is gonna be a lot of people interested in that casting number on a block, and I will shortly there after pay for your membership. Now hows that for a deal I am willing to put my money were my mouth is on this one.

Yup, the heads could very well be D2's but not the block. The code doesn't actually refer to the year of production, but year of that particular casting design.
