Welcome to the site. As far as discs, I would probably check with ECI Hot Rod brakes. Just to warn you, you will probably get picked on for putting a Chevy 350 in your truck (I know because I also have a 350 in my '48'). Good luck on your project and how about putting some pics of your truck in your gallery (We all love pics here). Welcome again.

Mario,
Welcome to the site!! do not worry about having a chevy engine, there are alot of us around here with non Ford powerplants (I'm running a 500 Caddy). You willhowever probably get teased about it a bit, but then again you will probably get teased anyways. This is a great bunch of people with great advice, experience and senses of humor.
I used the basic kit from ECI for my 49, it was about $100 bucks and came with the brackets, bearing adapters, and bolts. I already had the calipers. The kits require rotors and inner bearings and seals from a 73 through 90's Ford truck and outer bearing from a mid 70's GM midsized car and GM big car calipers.
Call up either ECI or MP brakes and they can give you all the details.
Good luck with yoru truck, when you get a chance set up a gallery with some pics so the rest of us can drool a bit over your project
Hi Mario - welcome to the forum. Check out the search feature or, better yet, the advanced search feature. Click on the Search link above, and then Advanced Search. Select the 1948-1960 Truck Forum in the list box on the lower right, and then search using a text string like this:
+front +disc +brakes
You should find a number of threads discussing the options.
When you get a few minutes, read the sticky threads at the top of the forum and then set up your gallery so we can see some pictures of your truck.
Mario,
Thanks for geting your gallery set up and sharing pics with us. What a good looking truck!! I wish mine was in that good of shape to start with.
Whats the deal with the flattie? is it locked up? junk? or what? I'm sure there is someone around here who would be glad to take it off of your hands.
Have you really driven the truck as-is, so that you know you want to do all that? A lot of us are pleased as punch with bone-stock stuff. You're headed down a slippery slope with those kinds of mods, if you're on a budget -- I'm betting unless you are real clever with tool you are looking at at least $5k in mods already. And hacking up a nice, original truck!
Please do a search here on airbags for the pros and cons, especially the cons. Don't forget when you go to front (and/or rear) disk brakes you need a higher volume master cylinder and a proportioning valve if mixing disks with drums.
That's a real solid looking truck especially for NY!
Don't worry about the engine, I have 400 SBC in my panel and they haven't banned me yet. Just don't get involved in any my engine is better... discussions and it'll be cool.
