I have a 2005 F250 Crew auto, psd FX4 that I lifted 2.5 with a Tuff Country Leveling Kit and a add-a-leaf with 315x70x17 BFG's on 17x9 Moto Metal wheels over the weekend. I now have a noticable vibration in the rear end between 45-55 and it gets worse when im towing. It does it even if I take it out of gear. I have shimmed the carrier bearing and although it took away the take off vibes it hasnt helped this problem. I had the tires re-balanced but it didnt help... My question is this, could it be a tire out of round, a bent wheel, or is it driveshaft related? The wheels and tires are BRAND new. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Um, somwhat risky, but jack up the back, put it on blocks with the wheels off the ground, put it in gear, get out, and look at the tires - see if they're lumpy ... (best way is to have a second person put it in gear and idle, just so if it falls off the blocks, that person can slam on the brakes).
Or the rims are out of round, that would show up that way too...
Does one of the sidewalls of of your tires have a rippled look to them? I am thinking if you balanced your wheels/tires and lets say one of your wheels are bent that would correct the problem.
What is strange about your problem is that you did not go too extreme with your lift... Some guys throw on some traction bars to clean up the axle wrap...
no noticable bend or problem with the tire. Two of the wheels took 6oz and 2 took 3oz approx. We tried to dismount and remount the tires and then rebalance but still not help. I am trying to decide if I should pursue the tires or rims now????????????
I don't know - maybe you should jack up the back (and put it on blocks) again, remove both rear wheels and run it up to 55-70MPH with the back off the ground.
That will tell you if it's the tires/rims or something else.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's the driveshaft - if you find it still vibrates with the wheels off, take the truck to a driveshaft shop and see what they say.
Awhile back on another truck I bought some 16 X 8 steel wheels for a set of 33 12.5 16 Swamper SSRs. The weels were so out of wack the tire would not balance. We removed the tire and ran the wheel only on the balancer and you could see the wobble.
I'll bet it's your driveshaft. The u-joint angles are probably too much. Most any vibration issues after a lift on a Super Duty are driveshaft related. I'm not sure about the CC, but on the SWB 137"-142" the spacer blocks are tapered from front to back. If put on the wrong side, the driveshaft vibrates like crazy because of the u-joint angles.
I am going through a similar problem on my 98 f150 2wd . I put in 7.5" fabtech lift and had 0 problems other than my front tires rubbing but had a rumbling sound at high speeds after putting a 1" daystar spacer kit and 1.5" add a leafs. We were puzzled for awhile and 2 days ago I was running down the highway and it seemed to be worse then all of the sudden my truck started smoking like crazy so when I pulled over the driveshaft actually pulled the rear seal out of my tranny When we got the seal temporarily pushed back in you could see way too much of my shaft was exposed ( thank god my tranny is ok) The guys here locally refuse to lengthen it more than 77" so I am trying to find a new model 2 piece from a 4 door with a carrier bearing to cut down for my truck (if anyone has one let me know). I have dug pretty hard for another solution but cant get a better plan from anyone. They tell me that if you take an aluminum shaft past 77" they will not last and the vibration will still be there. I would definately climb under your truck and look at the shaft at the tranny and see whats going on there.
