With gasoline prices they way they are, I have been keeping an eye on my mileage. I have a reg. cab FX4 with 3:55 gears. No tonneau cover on the short bed. Anyway, driving a needle width below 70mph I get 16.5 mpg with gas with 10% alcohol (98 octane) and 18.0 mpg with straight gas (87 octane). I gas up at Caseys and straight gas is 4 cents higher. Has anybody else notice the same thing? Doing a little math, I am getting 9.2% better gas milage with the 1.3% higher priced gasoline. No more alcohol for the Fiso.
They juice up regular fuel up here (Northeast) in the winter months to reduce emissions from idling vehicles. As a result, our gas mileage decreases. These trucks are designed to run very well on 87 octane, unless you're running a maxed out tuner.
With prices what they are nowadays I get what's the cheapest. I try not to let my truck drop away from full too much so it doens't hurt as much at each fill up so i coudl actually end up with some 87 octane, 90 or 93 in whatever mixture so i always just get the 87 which is the cheapest. Usually anyway?
