Ranger Tailgate trim

help!
how do you get the trim off the tailgate?
I got the strip off the bottom, and the piece that says Ford.

Now I can't figure out how to get the big piece that is right above the Ford piece off. I took the four nuts off (two at each end) but I don't want to pry on it for fear of breaking the fasteners or bending the piece.

there should be some small screws or rivets accross the inside of the tailgate. if you look inside the hole for the release handle you can see the bracket immediately to the right and left of teh opening and you should be able to see what they used and where and then open the gate and look at the back side for the hardware. hawkrod

ok...

I went out to mess around with it some more and it doesn't slide. there is no hardware left on the gate. if I look inside the latch hole you can see where the chrome around the hole undernieth the trim I am tring to remove has two screws holding it on. there was screws on the inside of the tailgate holding the piece of trim on that says FORD but no other screws or holes for screws. I tried to carefully pry and it didn't show any signs of moving. I looked through the gate with a flashlight and could not see for sure. this is a pretty large piece(not a little strip). about 5" tall and full width of gate. I sure would hate to ruin it, any othe ideas? thanx

I'm taking the same piece off a 74 right now. Has 4 nuts on edge of tailgate (you already removed). Also has about 8 screws from the backside of the gate, similar to the FORD piece. Believe me, these screws are very hard to see through the rust, but they are there.
