Traveling down I-75 today, stopped got gas, got back on 75. Steering is WAAAAYY loose, checked to be sure the LLS switch was not turned off, shut truck off, checked wheels, no obvious signs of anything wrong. What should I check next?? It kinda felt like the airbags weren't pumped up, really bouncy sensitive steering. No check engine light, no chk susp. light.
Drove around this morning and all is well, on my way to the office I about put myself in a ditch while going around a bend. Damn thing just went loose, no noise or anything.
Funny you should ask/say: I left the dealership the other day after having my O2 sensors swapped LTR. I (yes I) forgot to turn the LLS switch back on. First turn I came to, I thought I was about to flip the damn thing.
So what's the relationship between LLS and Speed Sensitive Steering? It (felt like) took NO effort to turn that wheel; I thought it, it turned, and I almost lost control. Turned the switch back on, no problem.
The Air suspension module is combine with the EVO aka varible power
steering assist module. A lot of the inputs such as OSS (output speed sensor)
are shared by both those systems. When you turn the switch off you shut
off power to the module. It does have other power wires going to it but i
am not sure how this effect module operation. Based on your experiance
i would say when the switch is off it provides full power steering assist at
all times even at high vehicle speeds.
I was reading a post somewhere while researching broken front sway bar links (fixed now) and came across someone who figured out if you put your expy in 4-lo and let the lls raise up, then turn off the lls it would stay raised, even after put back into 2wd. he talked about the steering being much less touchy when the lls was turned off. i have the same experience; with lls on the steering is very touchy and overboosted, especially at speed. turn it off and it steers much better, less boost at speed and not nearly as jerky feeling. fwiw...
