$250 for exhaust??

Hello again. I was talking with an exhaust shop and they quoted me $250 for a Magnaflow (don't know which muffler) universal muffler and 2.5" tubing cat back to the back, exiting exactly how the stock exhaust did....is this a good price?

I went to my local shop and put on a slightly used 2.5 inch flowmaster and it only cost me $60 bucks installed. I reused the stock tailpipe but after a couple weeks i cut it off because it wasnt loud enough.

Powerstroke, I looked at the Magnaflow website and they list Aluminized steel mufflers for about $110 to $125 depending in things like single in/duel out and pipe size. Their Stainless steel mufflers ranged from about $140 to $175. If you shop around you could probably beat those prices on Ebay or something. But the shop is probably going to charge you list. If the shop is ONLY replacing the muffler, then that's about $120 to $140 or so for labor. Don't know what they charge in your area for labor but here in So. Calif. $85 to $110 per hour is about the norm. If on the other hand they are going to do a complete "cat back" install, then $250 sounds good to me.
If you shop around you might get lucky and find a deal like JIMW's. Just depends on how patient you are and how much you like to bargain.

Good Luck

well, the exhaust is being replaced because somebody backed the truck into the rock at the end of the driveway. Cracked the mudflap and crimped off the exhaust. I was going to get a driect factory catback stock system, but then decided to put on a magnaflow muffler, and then 2.5" aluminized pipe all the way back. I have no idea what muffler is being put on, they just quoted me $250....
