are there any major issues or problems that go along with dropped spindels on the mustang II? like higher balljoint stress or load . just bought a fatman kit and now thinking i should have ordered the drop units.
All of the ones that I have seen rotate the caliper towards the rear approximately 45 additional degrees. The result of this is that the bleeder is no longer at the highest point, making brake bleeding impossible without unbolting the calilpers or purchasing $pecial equipment.
I talked to a guy selling his dropped MII spindles on ebay. They were just too darn low for day to day driving for his preference. I guess he bottomed out the frame and parts one time too many. So he went back to the stock MII spindles. I have the Fatman xmember welded in and plan to use the stock MII spindles and air bags for the altitude adjustments.
I have the TCI kit with the dropped MII spindles and the calipers are mounted perfectly vertical. There were no problems with bleeding. My truck is bagged so I really can't answer the question regarding ride height. Sorry.
My 52 has a RBs Mustang II kit. I also added 2" drop spindles. Absolutely no problems with bleeding calipers. If you want super low this is the way to go. Unless you want bags. My front bumper is 3½" off the ground. I'm running 14" front tires. Check my gallery for pics. I have put 500 miles on this truck in the last month since its been done. AND LOVE IT! Looking forward to the F100 Nats next year already!Later,Bill
I'm planning to use a TCI or heidts leaf spring kit for the rear of my '48, which both say lowers about 4". Heidts says their mii crossmember lowers the front about 3"-4", with an additional 2" with the dropped spindles. An email from TCI claims their crossmember lowers the front about 2", plus 2" more for the drop spindles. It seems that some of your decision would be based on what rear suspension you're planning to use. It looks like you'll need the drop spindles with the TCI kit, but stock or 2" are the same price. You may not need the drops with Heidts, but if you do they're $140.00 exchange. I haven't decided which way I'm going yet, but the hot rod shop I'll use prefers to do business with TCI. By the way, Heidt's catalog has v good info on front end geometry and installs.
I have the dropped spindles and I really like the rake and ride hieght but the frame does scrape the grond if you are going over a hump in the road at a good speed. Thinkin about going to the stock.....Would I have to purchase them from TCI or do you guys know what would interchange from the parts store?????????????
