i have a 2003 ford ranger with a 5 speed and i'm having clutch problems. a few mornings ago i tried to drive it but the clutch was seeming to grab anything. it ended up dieing and i couldn't get it out of gear. the clutch had absolutely no pressure, it was really soft. i checked it again a few hours later and their was a small puddle under the transmission. since it was a small amount of fluid i checked the clutch resevoir and it was empty. so i refilled it to see where the leak was and it didn't leak again. however, it still wouldn't move out of gear. then we bled it and there was air in their, after getting all the air out, now it's driveable. but, the clutch still isn't the same, it is still pretty soft so i am not sure if i should drive it or not.
any ideas on what i can do to fix this? should i just take it to the ford dealer? why did it leak once and never again, without me fixing it?
You could have a bad slave cylinder, which is probably still inside teh tranny bellhousing.
Since I don't deal with stealerships or own rigs with warranties, go ahead and take it in IF it's not a "wear item" and you are covered. Otherwise, you are hoping they are any good in the service department.
I agree, check the slave and line to it. also, these trannies are notorious for being a beast when it comes to bleeding the slave. chances are you still have air in the system.
