Steering wheel shudder

1998 Ford F150 2WD V8
Between 40-50 mph my steering wheel starts shuddering back and forth terribly. As I get above 50 mph the shuddering slowly becomes less and less. What is the cause of this? Thanks!

When was the last time you had your tires balanced? Go get 'em balanced and that should take care of it.

I agree, tires need to be balanced. Also, may be time to check out all of the tie rod ends and ball joints.
