I'm working on a 65 Falcon. On a Falcon site I saw one that the site said had a Toyota power steering box in it. The owner claimed to be happy with the performance. But the site didn't tell what kind of Toyota it came from or any details about the swap. Just wondering if anyone has any info about a Toyota box on a Falcon. Some of the Mustang guys on here might have seen it done since the 65 Falcon and Mustang were built on the same platform. Thanks for any help.
i am a member of the ford falcon news, with over 1500 members, and have never heard of that.the standard swap is a later model mustang box with a divorced column.
I have a '63, and I'm also a member of the ford falcon news...never heard of that either. I just run the non-power steering and I'm perfectly happy with it.
i have a 61 falcon and am a member of ford falcon news (lots of falcon stuff) and have never heard of a such swap, but now i will be cursed untill i looked under the hood of every toyota (pickup? i would think that most all cars would be rack and pinion)at the local junkyard next time im out there.
Yeah, how would you get a rack-and-pinion steering box to work on a Falcon? It would have to be from a similar steering system, so we're talking (maybe) from one of their recent pickups, or more likely one of the old Corona/ Crown RWD models built in the 70s. Try finding one of THEM today!
I've owned, driven, and modified my 64 Convert for about 20 years now and haven't heard of that one. Most people who don't want the crappy steering box either get a Mustang II type suspension/steering combo or another one like it such as a Heidt's setup. You can see the Heidt's setup on ebay, just search for falcon and sort by price. It's about $1750 and includes the whole front suspension and gets rid of the shock towers for more header space.
Thanks for all the info. If hardly anyone has heard of the swap, its probably not worth trying. Probably run into more hang ups than its worth. Thanks again.
