i have a 1988 toyota truck 4x4 that i just put 33x12.50 mickey thompson baja claws on it. it seems that these tires are notorious for throwing rocks up and they generally land on the windshield and crack it. a lot of my friends have these tires and it all of their windshields r cracked too. is it odd? i wasnt even spinning the tires i was just going up my lane and there are rocks layed in it. has this happened to anybody else?
Nothing like that has ever happened to me, but I find it difficult to believe that a vehicle could throw a stone forward and upward far enough ahead that it decreases velocity to the point that the vehicle's own speed vs. the speed of the stone are enough that it would crack a windshield.
In other, less convoluted words, I do not understand how it could possibly happen.
Especially since a stone picked up by tire treads and then released would be released in the wheel well where it would be virtually impossible for it to get out in front of the vehicle and contact the windshield.
I think the "notorious" reputation of these tires has been fabricated to enhance their appeal to buyers. Also known as "marketing".
In even simpler words, I think this so-called "problem" is bu**s***

Reason: spelling
On the way to a football game, one of the cheerleaders threw a pretzal out the window of the bus and it apparently cracked some guy's winshield. I say apparently because I wasn't there, and it might have been a BS story done only to attract attention.
I do know that my 84 F-250, with the tires -barely- sticking out of the fenders (much less than the 2" allowed by law), it would chuck stuff all over the front of the truck. 9 times out of 10, the hood and top of the cab got more clumped mud on them than the rest of the truck.
this aint no BS story. first of all my tires stick out about 2-3 inches past the side of my truck. and whats the point of going "mudding" when you cant get your truck all dirtied up? so thats why i dont have fender flares. where i live there are a lot of boys ith big jacked up trucks and loud exhausts that the cops dont even bother pulling us over. so the cops are pretty leniant.
That has happened to me before, if the tires stick out far enough past the fenders, even just 2-3" it can toss stuff on the winshield, but usually only at lower speeds. Never cracked a window that way, but sure scared me sometimes.
Hell, you ever come out in the morning to a cracked windshield? It's not that unbelievable. A little hit in the right place, at the right temp and .......crack!
