changing heater core 81'f100
If you have A/C, you change it from the inside of the cab. It is easiest if you take the glove box out, not the whole dash, just the inside glove box liner part. Whole thng takes about 30 minutes and is easy. Pull the glove box liner out with the 4 or so screws. Unplug the little electric doo-dad on the heater box, pull the cover of the heater box off via the 10 or so 5/16 screws. Hard part is pulling the 20 year old hoses off the heater core from the underhood side. CAREFULLY take out the rubber gasket/filler pieces that hold it in place from the underdash side and don't foget to put them back in like I did so you have to do it again. -g-
Once the hoses are disconnected, the whole thing just lifts out from inside the cab and you slide in the new one.
You will need a friend to help put it in. Nothing really holds the heater in place except the hoses and that rubber gasket thing so they will need to put pressure to hold it in place while you push the heater hoses to the core so you get them on there all the way.

If you don't have A/C, then the whole thing is done from under the hood and it comes out under the hood as well.
While you are in there, you should be prepared to get a shopvac in there and clean it all out. You would be amazed at how many leaves and pine needles etc fall in there.
Good Luck,
Lee

At any rate, clean everything you can while you have it apart. It will make a difference!
